Graphic Organisers
To fully understand concepts or subject matter, students need a way to structure their thoughts. A graphic organizer is a method in which students can visually depict an idea through sequences and charts. The following graphic organisers are relevant and work in conjunction with De Bono's "Six Thinking Hats" approach.
PMI Chart
The PMI (plus, minus, interesting) was developed by Dr. Edward de Bono (1992) to be a brainstorming activity that encourages participants to engage in discussion that evaluates an idea from more than one viewpoint. The PMI graphic organiser is designed to be a quick and effective method of weighing the pros, cons and implications of an idea or decision. Each of the three column works in conjunction with the following hats:
> The "Plus" column is supported by the Yellow Hat (benefits) and encourages students to unlock the "good points."
> The "Minus" column is supported by the Black Hat (judgement) and assists the students to question what is "wrong" with the issue.
>The "Interesting" column allows the Green Hat (creativity) to be utilized and for the students to detail what they thought was thought-provoking.

Mind Map:
A mind map is another method used to depict ideas and is a great tool to harness creativity and apply it to problem solving. The creator writes or illustrates concepts branching from a central thought. Mind maps can be used to illustrate knowledge about a topic, or they can be used for brainstorming purposes. This graphic organizer would work well in conjunction with all of De Bono's "Six Thinking Hats," as it allows ideas to be organised clearly but would work particularly well with the Green Hat (creativity) in brainstorming new ideas.
